{"id":2431,"date":"2010-11-05T13:49:35","date_gmt":"2010-11-05T17:49:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/?p=2431"},"modified":"2010-11-05T13:52:00","modified_gmt":"2010-11-05T17:52:00","slug":"faile-bedtime-stories-at-perry-rubenstein-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/faile-bedtime-stories-at-perry-rubenstein-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"Faile: Bedtime Stories at Perry Rubenstein Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2432\" title=\"31\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/31.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Braved the rain last night to head to an opening I had been looking forward to for a very long time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2435\" title=\"26\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/26.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I had seen the show advertised a while ago and commented to a friend that I was slightly bummed that the show was apparently canvas and not sculpture.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2436\" title=\"3\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Upon walking in, I realized how wrong about that I was and my excitement meter went off scale.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2437\" title=\"1\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I guess we all like what we like and are impressed what we are impressed with, but this show is almost monumental, Ive never seen anything quite like it in person.\u00a0 All the pieces are collage made up of painted or screened blocks of wood.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2438\" title=\"9\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2440\" title=\"13\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2439\" title=\"12\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2441\" title=\"10\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A lot of cliche&#8217; nonsense could, and has been said about street artists and galleries, but the work on display at Perry Rubenstein is relaxed, bold and completely at home.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2443\" title=\"4\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2444\" title=\"133\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/1331.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2445\" title=\"125a\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/125a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2446\" title=\"131\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/131.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As expected, with Faile&#8217;s International Appeal (Interstellar Feel?) the opening was mobbed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2452\" title=\"23\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/23.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2450\" title=\"121\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/1211.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve all been to crowded openings before and generally, they are merely that: crowded openings.\u00a0 Last night was different.\u00a0 I most assuredly wasn&#8217;t the only person who was flat out *excited* to be there.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2453\" title=\"136\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/136.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The vibe in the room was positively electric, more akin to what you&#8217;d feel at a concert than in a gallery looking at some art&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2454\" title=\"128\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/128.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2455\" title=\"2\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When one (two) can screen some pieces of wood, hang them on a wall, and inspire memories of the last time you crowd surfed standing on a piece of plywood at a 1990&#8217;s Pukkelpop, you know you are doing something right.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2456\" title=\"124\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/124.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2457\" title=\"125\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/125.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Big high five to the duo that is <a href=\"http:\/\/faile.net\/site\/\" target=\"_blank\">Faile<\/a> for hitting it out of the park.\u00a0 Again.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2458\" title=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/120.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The show runs at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perryrubenstein.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Perry Rubenstein Gallery<\/a> through 23 December 2010.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2434\" title=\"29\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/29.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you are in, close or can afford airfare to Manhattan, seeing this show in person is an absolute must.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2433\" title=\"24\" src=\"http:\/\/daveraphael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/24.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Braved the rain last night to head to an opening I had been looking forward to for a very long time.
